Abstract:An effective melting technique of carbon deoxidization of VIM was discussed in this article. Superalloys Inconel 718, M17F and iron were chosed as the testing materials. Applying thermodynamic stable CaO refractory as the melting crucible and increasing refining temperature, the carbon deoxidization thermodynamic and kinetic conditions were strengthened. For the end materials, which were melted with the calcia refining process, oxygen content of alloy 718 was decreased from 0.0025% to 0.0006%; M17F from 0.0025% to 0.0009%i iron from 0.0055% to 0.0025%. High oxygen purity metal materials were obtained in these new developed refining process by effective carbon deoxidation.
