Preparation of Y2O3-Bi2O3 and Photocatalytic Degradation of 2,4-Dichlorophenol under Visible Light Irradiation

Abstract:Photocatalytic degradation of 2,4-dichlorophenol is a new and prospective treatment method that mineralizes 2,4-dichlorophenol into CO2 and H2O.Bi2O3 is an important semiconductor material which has a wider responding value to sunlight than that of TiO2.A series Y2O3-Bi2O3 composite photocatalyst with different mass ratio of Bi2O3 and Y2O3 was synthesized by high-temperature solid state reaction.The degradation of 2,4-dichlorophenol on Y2O3-Bi2O3 was tested under visible light of dysprosium lamp.The results showed that the optimal calcination temperature was 1023 K and the best mass ratio of Bi2O3 and Y2O3 was m(Bi2O3)∶m(Y2O3)=24∶1.The degradation rate of 2,4-dichlorophenol was 67.46% when the amount of catalyst was 1 g/L,2,4-dichlorophenol solution was 20 mg/L and the illumination time was 1 h.It increased 42.46% due to the presence of the Y2O3-Bi2O3 composite catalysts.XRD showed that the catalyst formed β-Bi2O3 crystal at a suitable mass ratio of Y2O3.The absorption edge of Bi2O3-Y2O3 composite catalyst calcined at 1023 K was 498 nm.
