Abstract:Adsorbing solute transport in the heterogeneous unsaturated soil was studied by first-order stochastic analyses under the condition of gravity dominated flow. The macrodispersivity was expressed as an integration of the square of coefficient of co-variation (SCCV) of the solute velocity, which was the sum of the SCCV's of the retardation factor and soil water velocity. The SCCV's of the solute velocity and retardation factor were expressed as the linear combinations of the SCCV,s of the unsaturated hydraulic conductivity, water content, and adsorption coefficient. The statistic characteristics of the unsaturated hydraulic conductivity, water content, and adsorption coefficient were determined from the generated unsaturated hydraulic conductivity and adsorption coefficient fields. The effects of various factors, such as water content, adsorption coefficient, and the correlation features of adsorption coefficient, on unsaturated macrodispersivity were studied.
