China's State Council has published a circular calling for government departments to ensure food safety and safeguard people's health. The purpose of the notice is to ensure long-term sufficient supply, to improve the quality and safety of food. The notice urges related government departments to establish safety standards for food production, transportation, storage and circulation. It stresses infrastructure construction and management of markets of grain, meat, vegetables and other agricultural products. Efforts should also be made to inform the public of food safety.
