Abstract:Contamination of persistent organic pollutants and heavy metals is an important issue of global concern, and their continued exposure poses serious ecological risks and health problems. These pollutants are of widespread conern because of their stable physical and chemical properties, persistence in organisms and the environment, bioaccumulation, toxicity and high capacity for long-rang transport. Previous studies have shown that the accumulation of persistent organic pollutants and heavy metals in organisms can cause oxidative stress and immune damage, disrupt the composition and upset the balance of the intestinal microbiota.. Probiotics can maintain the balance and stability of the host''s intestinal microbiota and effectively improve the organism''s antioxidant capacity and immune cell activity. And probiotics have been shown to reduce the accumulation of pollutants in the host, improve the host''s immune function and regulate the balance of intestinal microbiota, thus reducing the toxic effects caused by pollutants. Therefore, this paper reviewed the role of probiotics in regulating the toxicity of persistent pollutants and heavy metals in organisms,, aiming to provide theoretical references for the abatement of pollutants.
Keywords:heavy metals   persistent organic pollutants   probiotics
