Abstract:The analysis in this paper demonstrates that the capillary pressure on the concave liquid-vapor interface will promote the interfacial evaporation, therefore clarifying the confusion over the great difference between the estimated and real rate of interfacial evaporation. This difference increases with decreasing capillary radius, and becomes more apparent for liquid with high latent heat. The present analysis also shows that the capillary pressure on the concave interface will result in a decrease in liquid phase equilibrium temperature, which can explain the possibility of vapor bubble formation on micro liquid layer interfacial evaporation under low superheat, or even below the nominal saturated temperature.
Keywords:interfacial evaporation heat transfer  capillarity  bubble formation
