| 摘 要： | MPEG(Moving Picture Expert Group)是ISO和CCITT于1988年成立的专门研究多媒体数据压缩标准的一个专业组织。该组织于1999年先后发布了MPEG-4标准的第一、二版。较之MPEG-1、MPEG-2、H263，MPEG-4首次提出并实现了基于内容的交互性、可伸缩性和可扩充性。它为多媒体数据压缩提供了一个全新的空间，是适应未来音视频应用的编码标准。该文概述了MPEG的发展过程，侧重介绍了MPEG-4的特点，并且就现在MPEG-4的研究热点进行了讨论。

| Abstract: | MPEG group, which is a specializing organization established by ISO and CCITT in 1988, produced the first and second version of MPEG-4 standard in 1999. Compared with the previous MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and H.263 standards, MPEG-4 introduces and realizes many novel concepts for the first time, e.g. content-based interactivity, scalability and extensibility. It faces to the multimedia technique requirements of future. This paper gives an introduction to the history of MPEG and details the main features of MPEG-4. In the end, some hot research topics about MPEG-4 are also presented. |
