Thermal and inertia effects in externally pressurized conical bearings lubricated with non-newtonian fluids

Abstract:A finite difference technique was used to derive a numerical solution for the pressure and temperature distributions along the flow through externally pressurized conical bearings lubricated with non-newtonian fluids. The variation in the fluid viscosity with temperature was included in the solution. The effects of the flow behaviour index, the bearing geometry and the bearing speed on the pressure and temperature distributions were investigated under conditions of adiabatic flow.
