Abstract:The paper presents the influence of circular saw dimensions and membrane stresses on the critical resonance revolutions. The determination of the critical number of revolutions is attained by the VIB-MEF-program, conceived by the author for the calculation of natural frequencies of circular saw blades. The computer program is based on the finite element method (FEM). A semi-analytical finite element is used to take into consideration the saw blade geometry (dmensions, clamping ratio, teeth at the external rim) and second order effects due to membrane stresses. The determination of the critical number of revolutions also allows to establish the optimum cutting speed. The results are given in diagrams which are useful for design and production activities.
