Abstract: | Studied the acquisition and retention of the location of a food source in the fire ant, using a group-learning criterion in 4 experiments. Chemical, distal-visual, and kinesthetic cue changes led to increased errors to criterion, but adjustment to changes in a single sensory cue was rapid once the maze was learned by the workers. Although chemical cues are prepotent for the fire ant, learning was possible without them. Group learning curves were comparable to those of the single Formica ant studed by T. Schneirla.
