Retrospection of the Cooking Culture in Ancient China from Ancient Chinese Characters

Ancient Chinese characters are important factors for tracing and studying the origin of Chinese cook- ing culture. It is known from characters“果”、“蓏”、“实”、“隹”、“有”、“将”that the process of our ances-tors＇ development and utilization of ingredients was full of rational thinking. Waterfowl hunting was a turning point from fishing to hunting. Characters like“熏”、“熟”、“庶”、“汤”, represent our forefathers＇ understand- ing and mastering of the concept of cooked food. The practice of dietary life with its philosophical speculation embodies great wisdom in the development of Chinese cooking.
