Abstract:The paper reports an examination of the primary sources of stable lead (Pb) occurring in rocks and soils on dairy farms in the municipalities of Pedra and Venturosa in Pernambuco, Brazil. Lead in rock and soil was quantified by flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The Pb concentration in calcium silicate rock varied from 21 to 1124.00 mg.kg?1 and soil varied from 18 to 96 mg.kg?1. The lead concentration in granite rock varied from 6 to 440 mg.kg?1 and soil varied from 8 to 15 mg.kg?1. The results point to the rocks as the primary sources of lead.
