Abstract:The data discussed in this paper indicate the importance of the application of a number of different analytical procedures to a detergent biodegradation study, since no single technique is an adequate means of measuring the various aspects of detergent biodegradability. This paper describes surface tension, colorimetric, manometric, radioactive, and GLC analytical methods applicable to detergent biodegradation analyses, with an interpretation of the results given by each method. The biological system used in the studies is also described. Presented at the AOCS meeting in Toronto, Canada, 1962.
