Abstract: | Argues that the primary ethical question raised by R. J. Cohen's and F. J. Smith's (see PA, Vol 55:Issue 5) report of a woman Christian Scientist who became obsessed with thoughts of disease is whether her treatment succeeded at the expense of her religious convictions. Issues related to the political aspects of psychotherapy, whether the therapists imposed their own values on the patient during treatment, and the nonneutrality of any attempt to change troubling behaviors are discussed.
