The Influence of Ageing Temperature on the “Köster Effect” in Martensite

Abstract

Measurements have been taken which show that the rate s of recovery of internal friction and of modulus of rigidity in freshly quenched steel increase rapidly with the ageing temperature. The experimental results can be at least partly explained by the theory of Granato et al. However this theory cannot account completely for the experimental values of internal friction. A basis for a possible modification of the theory is suggested.
