THE INFLUENCE OF CHEMICAL COMPOSITION ON THE CRYSTALLIZATION AND THE HEAT TRANSFER OF SYNTHETIC MOULD FLUXES |

Abstract: | AbstractEight synthetic mould fluxes were prepared considering two Na2O levels and two fluorine (F) contents of approximately 5 and 12% and adjusting the basicity ratio to 0.9 and 1.2. An experimental set-up based on a water cooled copper finger was used to study the crystallization behaviour of the 8 fluxes (2 levels, 3 parameters) and to compare the thermal resistance of these fluxes, when in contact with a water cooled copper finger. Differences in thickness and in crystallization level depend upon their chemical composition and have a direct influence on the heat transfer at the solid slag/copper interface. The thermal resistance increases with thickness and higher crystalline content. |
