Control of Silica in the Bayer Process Used for Alumina Production

Abstract

Silica-bearing minerals in the bauxite ore from which alumina is extracted by the Bayer process, cause problems related to process chemical losses, product purity and heat recovery. The problems are partially resolved by beneficiation of the bauxite and by process modifications to compensate for the silica level in the bauxite.
