Research on the Chest Flat Degree in me Different Age Patients wire Peetus Exeavatum

Objective：To investigate the relationship between the chest flat degree and age in patients with pectus excavatum, then provide the information for the ideal age for surgery. Methods Randomly select 140 cases with pectus excavatum from Jul. 2003 to Jul.2009（50 patients of 1 - 3 years old, 50 patients of 3 - 6 years old, 40 patients of older than 6 years）. Chest X - ray of anterior - posterior view and lateral view were taken in all the patients before surgery, and the chest flat index were measured. The stone amotmt of normal children compared with the patients who has the similar age, sex, height and weight were selected as the control group. The control group were measured as the same way. Results The chest flat index in the different - age control groups was not significantly different （ P 〉 0.05 ） ; and the chest flat index between the patient group and the control group was significantly different （ P 〈 0.O5 } . The chest index between the different - age patient groups was signifycantly different （P 〈 0.05）, and the older patients, the bigger chest index. Conclusions The patients＇sthoracic cage with pectus excavatum were flatter than the normal children, furthermore, the chest flat degree exacerbated along with the age. According to our studies, we consider that the repairment of pectos excavatum should be early in order to prevent chest flat progressive increase.
