Carbon consumption in the blast furnace

Abstract:In the analysis of fuel consumption in blast furnaces, attention focuses here on the possibility of minimizing the carbon consumption by lowering the demand for carbon as a reducing agent and also lowering the demand for heat in smelting. With improvement (or deterioration) in the smelting conditions, synchronization of the carbon consumption in heating and reduction entails changing the degree of direct reduction of the iron. The decrease in the consumption of gasified carbon is always less than the decrease in the demand for carbon in any of these processes.
