Walk Through or Stay: Conception Transform from Street to Region--An Introduction of the Planning of Xingfu Pedestrian Street in Huai'an City

With an introduction of the planning of Xingfu Pedestrian Street in Huai'an city and in comparison with other recently completed projects, the paper reveals the predicament of the concept of "Street" in the contemporary design from two respects - Street as a pedestrian area and Street as a spatial type, and subsequently argues for a transformation of the concept from "Street" to "Region". Predicted upon such an argument, the paper further demonstrates its potential impact on the habitual behavior of the participating public and how a dynamic equilibrium between the lingering stay and drifting flow could be achieved.
