Abstract: | Conclusions The recommendations of par. 3.29 and 3.36 of the building codes SNiP 2.06-85 concerning the development of variants of dissipating the energy of the flow and comparing their technical economic indices were not realized. The construction of an artificial pit (scour pocket) or demolishing the bar for eliminating the downstream backwater were not provided for in the design. A reduction of the capacity of the hydrostation and production of electricity was not taken into account in the design, although the results of laboratory studies established a substantial backwater caused by the downstream bar. It seems to us that SNiP should be supplemented with specific requirements concerning the need to carry out variant designing in the case of dissipating the energy of the flow by deflecting the nappe with a determination of all technical and economic indices of the variants and their consequences during operation of the structure. The experience of operating hydrostations indicates that energy dissipation is a quite complex problem and insufficiently substantiated designs lead to a decrease of the reliability of the structures and require large capital expenditures for restoring their performance during operation.
