Abstract: | The burning behaviour of polyester/cotton blended fabrics is discussed and possible flame-retardant strategies outlined. Particular attention is paid to the effectiveness of phosphorous- and nitrogen-containing and antimony(III) oxide/halogen flame-retardant systems. Recent developments within the UK are discussed which suggest that phosphonium salt condensate finishes are effective on cotton-rich blends and that antimony-halogen systems may be used on all polyester/cotton blend compositions. Both types of flame retardant have acceptable durability to laundering. |
