Tailing in Cold Pad-Batch Dyeing and the Econtrol Process

Tailing is a phenomenon that everyone working in cold pad batch and continuous dyeing is almost certain to have encountered at some time. It normaily refers to a change in the depth of shade and/or hue of a dyeing along the full length or sections of a fabric. The term tailing is sometimes incorrectly used to describe listing (differences in shade between the sides and centre of a fabric), which is not discussed here. This article focuses on tailing in reactive dyeing of cotton using the cold pad batch method or the Econtrol process.
