Abstract: | Managed care has drastically changed the landscape in which health care is delivered. Collaboration among specialties to speed patient recovery, reduce cost, and avoid duplication of services can be a benefit for all concerned. Areas for collaboration can be discovered; part of the challenge is modifying one's "mental set" to seize such opportunities. This article describes a treatment plan developed between the specialties of psychology and physical therapy to help an adolescent patient regain motor function after an episode of Guillain-Barré.
