| Abstract: | In this paper, the method of linear stability analysis is used to study the onset of slugging for oil - gas two - phase flow in a horizontal tube. The relation between the appearance of wavy stratified flow, the formation of slugs and the transition to stable slug flow is quantitatively investigated. A criterion for the transition to stable slug flow is derived from an initial condition of slug growth. The results analysed by the theoretical method compare well with the experimental results. |
