| Abstract: | Data are presented for the heterogeneous nitration of toluene in a miniature CFSTR using nitrating acid of initial composition 15 mol% HNO3, 30 mole % H2SO4, 55 mole %H2O under a range of operating conditions. The results are shown to be inconsistent with the simple kinetic model adopted by previous workers on this system and suggest that diffusion resistances may play a more important part in determining nitration rates in the two liquid phase region than has hitherto been supposed. |
