THE TECHNICAL CONTROL OF THE MANUFACTURE OF AIRCRAFT BRAKE FRICTION LININGS

Abstract

The processes used in the production of friction materials for aircraft brakes are outlined. The stringent quality-control procedures adopted at all stages of raw-material testing, mixing, pressing, and sintering are discussed and examples given that show the necessity for these procedures. The control system results in an end product that gives reproducible friction properties and wear rates and can fulfil the requirements of an emergency stop.
