Abstract: | Composites of poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) and green coconut fibers were prepared by two techniques: dry blending + extrusion and dry blending + mixing. The degree of homogeneity of the mixes was evaluated through dynamic modulus measurements in both the molten and the solid states. Dry blending + mixing was found to be most appropriate in the preparation of laboratory scale composites. In addition, results suggest that no physico-chemical interactions occur between the matrix and the fibers. |
