Abstract: | Statistics indicate a rapid increase in world population, especially in the developing countries. Increasing demand for foods has come into existence in parallel with the growth of population. Amino acid supple-mentation of oil seed protein and grain is both practical and economical and can play a very important role in the campaign to improve the quality of world protein supplies. This paper reviews not only the nutritional significance but also the practical aspects of amino acid supplementation of foods and feedstuffs. Production of important amino acids is also reviewed. One of 16 papers being published from the Symposium, “Oliseed Processors Challenged by World Protein Need,” presented at the ISF-AOCS World Congress, Chicago, September 1970. |
