| Abstract: | A method is described of inducing an internal, longitudinal fatigue crack in a tube. It is based on a local compression of the tube, using a special loading device, to initiate and propagate a fatigue crack. It is shown that the geometry of this crack can be varied according to loading conditions. Some examples of small as well as of through cracks are given. |
