Finally, the application prospect of offshore platforms and the development status of steel plate used for offshore platform in China were outlined, to cope with the lag behind status of steel plate in China. It pointed out that the direction of future research is to develop steel plate in series according to four standard on steel plate used for offshore platform, such as high strength plate, large heat input welding steel and marine corrosion resistant steel etc. , and to develop particular toughening technology of heat affecting zone and welding technology.
