Effect of copper and magnesium on the structure and the phase composition of boron/aluminum composite ingots

The phase composition of aluminum Al–B–Cu–Mg alloys has been studied using calculations and experimental methods. Unlike copper, magnesium is shown to substitute aluminum in the AlB₂ phase substantially. The use of Al–Cu–Mg alloys (duraluminums) as the matrix of boron/aluminum composite prepared by liquid-phase technologies is substantiated.
