Carbonization of pitch

An overview is presented of the many factors which influence the process of carbonization of pitch and hence the properties of pitch cokes. The controlling factors include type of starting material, the industrial process of carbonization, the role of quinoline-insoluble material and carbonization conditions. Several coke parameters are studied and related to the carbonization process by multiple regression analysis. Kinetic data are presented together with a schematic model of coke formation.
