Electron paramagnetic resonance studies of South Wales coal

Nine South Wales coals of different rank and composition and seven structurally disturbed outburst prone coal samples were studied using electron paramagnetic resonance. An increase in baseline spin concentration with fixed carbon content was observed across the South Wales coalfield. Enhanced spin concentrations were observed for the structurally disturbed outburst prone coal samples. The $\text{g}$ value remained more or less constant with varying structural condition, fixed carbon, and volatile matter content of the coal.
