Provide a viable, safe and comfortable pedestrian experience along the Canal.
Develop a new signature site with diversified new districts. Create a new place that respects the pedestrian-friendly urban character of the District with buildings that meet the sidewalks and active first-floor uses, as well as well-designed sidewalks, street trees, and lighting.
Develop sites around the canal walk that will make the walkways more inviting and interesting, while also creating origins and destinations along the walkways.
Incorporate planning for energy efficiency and sustainability in the redevelopment of the site, including, where feasible, the use of renewable energy sources and district heating and cooling systems.
