Abstract: | A new analysis of the hydrofilm extrusion process which includes strain-hardening effects and viscosity variation in the fluid due to pressure is developed. The upper-bound method and hydrodynamic lubrication theory are adopted for the analysis of metal forming and fluid flow respectively.Experiments were carried out at room temperature, for several reductions of area, using axisymmetric curved dies. The theoretical prediction of extrusion pressure shows good agreement with experimental measurements for mild steel using castor oil as the lubricant. |
