Abstract:Work is described that forms part of a project the aim of which is to develop a fully automated knowledge-based system capable of interpreting passive sonar data. In particular, the task of transforming (raw) signal data to symbolic data has been approached from the viewpoint of developing a knowledge-based vision system that mimics the performance of operators when analysing noisy ‘chart’ recordings for significant events.
