Abstract:A pH-sensitive hydrogel with semi-interpenetrating networks(semi-IPN) composed of co-polymer of acrylamide and acrylic acid [P(AAm-co-AA)] was synthesized by a cross-linking co-polymerization route in the presence of N,N-methylene bisacrylamide(N,N-MBA) and potassium persulfate(KPS).The structural and thermal properties of semi-IPN hydrogels were analyzed by infrared spectra(FTIR) and differential thermal analysis.The equilibrium swelling ratio(Qe) increased with the pH value,and the maximum theoretical water contents S∞ was in agreement with the swelling experiment data.The swelling mechanism belonged to a Fickian mode for the P(AAm-co-AA) hydrogels in pH=1.47 buffer solutions.However,the dynamic swelling behavior of P(AAm-co-AA) hydrogels belonged to non-Fickian mode,in pH=11.04 buffer solutions.
