Research progress on binding agents for refractories used in high-quality steel smelting cast-house

The cast house is an important channel for the transition from blast furnace ironmaking to steelmaking. At present, casting is mostly used due to the influence of the size, shape and environmental conditions of the iron ditch. For monolithic refractory castables, the binding agents not only determine its workability and mechanical strength, but also affect the interface state, microstructure, and performance of the bonded materials during heating and baking processes as well as under high temperature service condition. The types, basic properties and binding mechanism of the binding agents widely used in iron ditch castables and their relative advantages and disadvantages were generalized. The research and development of amorphous refractory castable binding agents for iron ditch were summarized. Moreover, the industrial application prospect of a new type of cement free refractory castable is also prospected.
