Abstract: | Conclusions The Chusovoi Metallurgical Plant has now accumulated a significant amount of experience in making its own sinter within a broad range of basicities—from 1.03 through 3.81. In order to evaluate sinter and other materials as substitutions for limestone, it would be expedient to express fluxing ability as the percentage concentration of CaO or the sum CaO+MgO in the material minus the percentage of these oxides used to flux SiO2. Given sinters of equal basicity, their fluxing ability depends on their content of SiO2 and the basicity of the blast-furnace slag. To prepare for the possibility of having to melt unfluxed Kachkanar pellets in the blast furnaces, it would be best to organize the local production of high-basicity sinter.
