Present status of middleware technology and its development

Middleware, which intends to hide the underlying networked environment＇s complexity and deal with the platform＇s heterogeneity, is critical to distributed computing and system integration. This article introduces the middleware concept. It also introduces a system-level-based taxonomy, and discusses the characteristics, related standards and developments and applications of various types of existent middleware technologies.
