微处理器复杂流水线管理量化方法

摘    要:研究微处理器中常见的数据不同步现象和数据依赖造成的流水线阻塞现象,分析它们对微处理器流水线运作的影响以及它们对微处理器流水线管理单元设计提出的挑战.提出一种通用量化分析模型,通过此模型可以快速有效地得出不同系统结构体系下微处理器设计中的流水线管理方案,找出应遵循的准则.在16位定点DSP核-DSP2000的设计中采用此设计方法,发现能有效地指导设计者进行高效和正确的设计,大大缩短了设计和验证周期.

Abstract:The design issues of the Program/Pipeline Control Unit(PCU) in microprocessors was discussed. Factors that complexify PCU design are analyzed. Latency and pipeline stall caused by asynchronization and data dependency are investigated respectively. A quantitative analysis method is proposed. This method can reveal the implicit principle that should be observed in pipeline control no matter what system architecture it is. It can help designers design PCU module correctly and systematically. We have employed this method in the PCU design of a 16 bit fixed point DSP core successfully. It is proved to be efficient. It reduces the PCU design and verification cycle significantly.
