在瞿秋白担任中共驻共产国际代表团团长期间,由来已久的中国留苏学生中间的派别纷争愈演愈烈。在调查研究的基础上,瞿秋白对学生中的派别争斗提出了自己的看法,对留苏学生的教育问题提出了质疑,从而与共产国际产生了意见分歧。在随后展开的联共(布)清党运动中,瞿秋白受到强烈冲击,并被解除了中共驻共产国际代表职务。
