| Abstract: | This paper reviewed and evaluated the research approaches for the mechanism of mass transfer in an ion exchange membrane. Theoretically and experimentally studies in recently years were described. Special attention was dedicated to the irreversible thermodynamics viewpoint, the three-conductor model, the capillary model and "sorption-diffusion" analytical method. |
