Abstract: | A model is presented of stationary shearing produced during the chip formation in orthogonal cutting. The work material is supposed to be a thermal sensitive viscoplastic rigid material. The effects of material parameters, of heat conductivity and of inertia on the distribution of strain rate and of temperature in the primary shear zone are analysed. The cutting forces are calculated for a large range of cutting speeds including high speed machining. The results are obtained by developing a simple one-dimensional modelling of the primary shear zone. Experimental measurements are compared with the theoretical results. |
