Abstract: | Presents an account of the origin and development of psychology at Brooklyn College of the City University of New York from 1935 until 1970, the time when D. Katz, H. Helson, and W. Dennis served as department chairs. A comparison is made with City College of the City University of New York to determine the participation of graduated majors at both institutions in the field of psychology. The present paper represents an initial approximation of the role of the traditional and temporal influences on the growth of the psychology department.
