Upgrading of Hydro Generators

In order to utilize the hydro resource more effectively for higher economic return gained from the increased generation of electricity, it is high time that the owner of the hydropower plants should upgrade the hydro generators that have been in service for long. This paper presents reasons of upgrading, technical solutions and benefit of the upgrading of hydro generators. Practice indicates that upgrading of hydropower generators not only increased the output capacity of units but also reduce times of their tripping and therefore enhance the economic return of the power plants.
