Abstract:The derivatives of benzotriazole and thiadiazole used in lubricating oils can significantly improve the oxidation and copper corrosion inhibition properties of oils. The mechanism of metal deactivators to antioxidation was studied by means of various modern instrumental methods.The results show that an organic chemical film was formed on the copper surface along with the formation of chelate between the metal deactivator and copper ions. Thereby the catalytical oxidation of oil by metal and its ions was inhibited. The oxidation product of the derivative of thiadiazole can decompose hydroperoxide and thus decreases the rate of oil oxidation. As for the mechanism of metal deactivators to inhibit copper corrosion, thiadiazole has the function of scavenging active sulfur, besides the formation of protective film on copper surface.
