Abstract:Low Cycle Fatigue of Steel in Hydrogen Environment The low cycle fatigue fracture of a medium strength tempered steel ist studied in compressed hydrogen resp. nitrogen (150 bar). For given strain amplitudes, hydrogen reduced strongly the cycles to failure. Probably the crack growth is accelerated rather than the crack initiation. The frequency had no influence on the number of cycles to failure.
