| Abstract: | This paper discusses the proposition that the existential sentences in English and Chinese follow the principle of order iconicity and the former is less iconic than the latter.A tentative explanation is made about the reason why the noun phrases of the existential sentences are indefinite and about the unequal frequencies of occurrences of the three kinds of existential sentences. |
